Washington Football: 3 reasons to watch Las Vegas Bowl vs. Boise State
1. Chris Petersen’s last game
Washington head coach Chris Petersen is thought to be one of the best coaches in college football by people that know a lot more about the sport than me. His record truly does speak for itself as well as his consistency and his ability to stay in places for a long period of time. Petersen has a career record as a head coach of 146-38. He has been to a bowl game every year as a head coach and has never had a record worse than 7-6.
However, all those impressive stats aren’t reasons why to tune into this game. Coach Petersen got his head coaching start a Boise State and built them into the program that they are today. He coached at Boise State for his first eight seasons as a head coach before coaching at Washington the last six. He was the offensive coordinator at Boise State before taking over as the head coach there in 2006.
He lead the Broncos to that legendary win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl that had several trick plays to win it. Every college football fan remembers that game, which was the game that really put Boise State on the map.
So yes, it’s worth watching this game for the simple fact it is the last game Petersen will be coaching his final game (unless he decides to coach again down the road). However, the fact that He will be leading Washington to play against his former team in Boise State is only fitting as it has been the only two programs that Petersen has coached.
