1. The rise of Matt Campbell

Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell is finishing his fourth year as the head coach for the Cyclones. He has turned the program around and currently has a 26-24 record with Cyclones and three straight winning seasons. Iowa State has not had three straight winning seasons since 2000-02.

Campbell had success at Toledo before taking the head coaching job at Iowa State. With all the success that Iowa State has had as of late, he has been a candidate talked about each year to take a bigger school coaching job. However, Iowa State has done a great job keeping him. He will have Iowa State in a great position to win the Big 12 next season and a win against Notre Dame could help fuel that goal for the offseason.

While Iowa State lost five games this year, all their losses were by a combined 21 points. They lost by 10 to Kansas State, seven to Oklahoma State, two to Baylor and one to Iowa and Oklahoma. If a few of those close games go a different way, they could have been playing in the Big 12 Championship this year.

Campbell will have his guys ready to play against Notre Dame in what should be a close game all the way. Brock Purdy could be the deciding factor.
