10. BCS National Championship (2011)

We start the list with a really exciting national championship game that featured the rise of Cam Newton. He was great in this game, but Auburn’s defense also deserves a lot of credit for making some key turnovers that slowed down Chip Kelly’s spread offense.

These two teams that had in some ways revolutionized college offenses were surprisingly grounded for a lot of the game. Nonetheless this was still an exciting back and forth game that wasn’t decided until the last second.

Memorable Play

The play we all remember from this game was Michael Dyer’s run late in the fourth quarter as the game was tied. He was brought down on a carry but landed on an Oregon player, so he was able to get back up pick up 37 yards out of a seemingly dead play. This put Auburn in position to kick a walk off 19-yard field goal to win the national championship in 2011.
