8. SEC Championship (2012)

Before the playoff system, we always felt blessed anytime we got a de facto playoff game. This game fit that bill as it featured the No. 2 and No. 3 teams, with the BCS National Championship looming. These SEC powerhouses did not disappoint and put on a classic.

Many lead changes and momentum swings happened as you would expect from two teams fighting to play for the national championship. There was even a blocked Alabama field goal returned for a touchdown (not the first time you will see that on this list).

Memorable Play

I would point to Georgia’s last drive instead of a singular play. With one minute left, Georgia started from its own 15, and worked their way into Alabama territory with three huge chunk plays down 32-28. The final play was a completion to Chris Conley in which he stayed inbounds, allowing the clock to run out leaving Georgia five yards shy of a national title appearance.
