5. Ohio State Buckeyes

Aside from the inaugural season of the College Football Playoff system, the Ohio State Buckeyes have yet to notch another win in the postseason tournament. They’ve made it two other times, though, giving them an overall record of 2-2 in the playoff era.

They snuck in as the No. 4 seed in 2014 and defeated No. 1 Alabama by a score of 42-35 in the Sugar Bowl. In the National Championship, the Buckeyes handled No. 2 Oregon with ease, winning 42-20.

Other than Clemson, no contender has a better chance than Ohio State to win the CFP in 2020. They’ll get a second year of Justin Fields starting at quarterback, and while they’ll probably lose players like Chase Young and Jeff Okudah, the Buckeyes’ are used to simply reloading instead of rebuilding. With those expectations, though, another year without a win in the CFP would equal a huge disaster for second-year head coach Ryan Day.
