2020 NFL Mock Draft: Post-2019 college football season edition
By Dakota Cox
10. Cleveland Browns: Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
Cleveland fans are going to be pretty mad when they don’t take an offensive tackle, but they’ll forget about it when they see Isaiah Simmons on the field. This man is special, and his fall simply needs to stop. He’s too good to be on the board this late.
Isaiah’s versatility is so valuable in today’s NFL. He can play any position except for interior pass rush. His speed at linebacker is going to be hard for other teams to scheme against. He makes up for a lot of other players’ mistakes with his ability to close on the runner and finish tackles.
I’m not sure where Cleveland would play him, but all that matters is that he gets on the football field. He’ll figure out the rest. Would you love to get an offensive tackle here? Yes. But that’s not going to help you stop Lamar Jackson. Simmons might not be the best answer, but he’s certainly going to help out on that front.
Cleveland drafted Mack Wilson last year in the later rounds, and he’s played relatively well in terms of where they drafted him. One of his best abilities is coverage. With him playing alongside Simmons, you can get creative with the rest of the field. If you only want Simmons on the field, you get Wilson to be a great depth piece. Either way, this is a win for the Browns.
