17. Dallas Cowboys: Grant Delpit, S, LSU

This might be another surprise slide in the 2020 NFL Draft, but Grant Delpit did not live up to the hype early on this season. He easily could have been protecting his body as well, but we’re not sure. Either way, I think this is a great fit for both Delpit and the Cowboys. You’d obviously love to be in the top ten, but the next best thing is to go to a team that will use you well.

Delpit has quality coverage skills and intensity. He can play both the pass and run game, and you know he’s got the coaching coming out of LSU. I think this is one of those picks that would make everyone regret keeping him out of Dallas’s hands.

The Cowboys have all sorts of needs right now, but most of them will be answered depending on how they spend the rest of their cap money. Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper both remain unsigned for next year, so let’s wait and see with what they do there before we figure out their true needs.

That being said, I don’t see a scenario where they aren’t looking to fix the secondary in the draft. They could also go corner, but I think Delpit is a great mixture of fit and value with this first-round pick.
