2020 NFL Mock Draft: Post-2019 college football season edition
By Dakota Cox
2. Washington: Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State
Washington might’ve lost a ton of games, but they certainly won this NFL Draft. There was a concern that they would be stuck in their ways and not be able to rebuild, but I think this would be the start of a new era in Washington. Between some firings in the front office and hiring Ron Rivera, they appear to be doing the right things to set themselves up for success. This would be the next step.
Does Washington need another defensive linemen after drafting Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne, and Montez Sweat the past few years? Probably not. That being said, you can’t overlook this type of player. You have to draft Chase Young and let everything else sort itself out. He is too talented to be passed up for anyone who is not a star quarterback.
If he had not been suspended, Young would’ve probably set even more records than he did in his junior year at Ohio State. He has every trait you want, from speed and agility to strength. He can beat you with power, technique, or by just being the better player. Having a star edge rusher is incredibly valuable, and it’s what Washington will get if they draft Chase Young. I think the only reason they wouldn’t take him is if some team offered the farm to trade up and draft Tua, but I wouldn’t necessarily be pursuing trades for this pick. Take Chase Young and thank yourselves later.
