2020 NFL Mock Draft: Post-2019 college football season edition
By Dakota Cox
8. Arizona Cardinals: Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
This is another team that is weird to predict. They need offensive line help. There is no doubt about that. I just don’t know how much they are going to value offensive line when they have a spread system and a mobile quarterback. Top-tier OL talent is a weakness, so that should definitely be considered.
With that being said, I think Jeudy is the way to go. He’s a massive value pick this late in the first round, and he’s my top receiver. With Larry Fitzgerald getting older, it’s time to build to the strengths that Arizona will need for this offensive system to work, and that includes a top receiver.
You usually worry about how a receiver’s game will translate to the NFL when they go up against grown men at the corner positions, but that isn’t the case with Jeudy. His route-running and separation are second to none, and I don’t see your average corner stopping him. With what he can do both before and after the catch, he will quickly become Kyler Murray’s best friend in this offense.
Now, Arizona might consider taking CeeDee Lamb at this spot. He has chemistry from college with Kyler Murray, and he is certainly worthy of a top selection. I just think that Jeudy is better, and I don’t want to make things too complicated. Arizona needs a top receiver. Jeudy checks the boxes. Smile as you walk to the podium.
