Miami Football: 3 potential transfer destinations for Jarren Williams
1. Missouri Tigers (6-6 in 2019)
Last season, the Tigers made headlines in the college football world when former Clemson dual-threat quarterback Kelly Bryant transferred to Missouri. This season, the Tigers could benefit again from another dual-threat transfer quarterback in Jarren Williams. The Tigers will also be led under a new head coach in Elijah Drinkwitz, who was the head coach of the Appalachian State Mountaineers this past season.
Kelly was productive as the starting quarterback for the Tigers as he passed for 2,215 yards, 15 touchdowns and only six interceptions on 181 completions (out of 292 attempts). He proved he didn’t possess the explosive most quarterbacks have in an offense. The Tigers were ranked 95th in the nation in points per game (25.3) and 73rd in total yards per game (222.6).
Missouri will benefit from their leading rusher last season in running back Larry Rountree III returning for his senior season. Williams can come into a Tigers’ offense that will be highly productive leading the helm. Of the teams mentioned before, he will a more extensive quarterback battle to be a part of. Former TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Shawn Robinson transferred in with Bryant but was denied immediate eligibility by the NCAA.
Robinson played in 12 games in his freshman and sophomore seasons at TCU before transferring to Missouri. Robinson threw for 1,334 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions on 124 completions (out of 204 attempts) in seven games of his sophomore season at TCU in 2018. Missouri can also expect Connor Bazelak, who is coming off a torn ACL, to compete for the starting job.
If Williams transfers to Missouri, if granted immediate eligibility, he will be competing heavily with Robinson and Bazelak. If he gets the starting job, there will be much upside playing for a productive Tigers offense.
