Final thoughts

With a Pac-12 title and Rose Bowl win it’s outrageous to call this season anything other than a success. While there were certainly frustrating moments along the way, and the slight tinge of disappointment over missing out on the playoff (yikes, the Ducks were lucky that they were not LSU’s sacrificial lamb in the CFP semifinal), the 2019 season saw the Ducks return to prominence reaching heights not felt since Marcus Mariota was quarterbacking the squad.

What made this season special was the way the team won lead by a dominant, experienced offensive line and a strong defense that served as the heart of the team.

In only his second season at the helm, Mario Cristobal demonstrated the tremendous coaching job he has done in changing the culture and play of the team, while also providing fans with boundless optimism heading into the future.

We will know how the Ducks stack up early on next season as they play the North Dakota State Bison, winners of 37 games in a row, eight of the nine previous FCS national championships, and six consecutive victories over FBS opponents.

The Ducks get no reprieve as the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town the following week, in what may be the most anticipated non-conference game in Autzen Stadium history.
