Season’s low point at Arizona State

Sitting at 8-1 on the season, the Ducks returned home to Autzen Stadium to face off with the Arizona Wildcats and head coach Kevin Sumlin. The Ducks put together a rather boring, yet dominant, 34-6 victory over Arizona to give them nine consecutive victories before heading into the last road game of the regular season at Arizona State in Tempe.

The low point of the 2019 season came against the Sun Devils and ex-NFL coach Herm Edwards. The Ducks jumped out to an early lead that they were not able to take advantage of, after both offenses struggled for large portions of the first half and failed to capitalize on potential scoring chances; the Sun Devils held a 10-7 advantage going into the half.

Arizona State’s defense did a good job of stymying the Ducks’ attack, aided in large parts by questionable play-calling and perhaps the worst game of Justin Herbert’s career (he finished the game with two horrific interceptions and a QBR of 54.3).

On the other sideline, Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels played a great game, throwing for three touchdowns including a crucial 81-yard bomb to Brandon Aiyuk late in the fourth quarter which effectively sealed the win for the Sun Devils, halting the Ducks’ furious fourth-quarter comeback.
