2. Landon Tengwall, OT (Maryland)

While there’s no telling what the future holds, there is a possibility that center Jarrett Patterson is the only returning offensive lineman for the Irish in 2021. That would open up an assortment of positions along the line, many of which would be taken by 2019 or 2020 commits. However, the door would be open for a particularly outstanding 2021 commit to make some noise early in his college career.

That commit very well could be Landon Tengwall, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle out of Maryland. While Tengwall holds offers from dozens of schools across the country, early indications suggest a battle between Notre Dame, Michigan, and Penn State for his 2021 commitment.

While it’s worth noting that Tengwall was offered by former offensive coordinator Chip Long, offensive line coach Jeff Quinn also played a significant part in the Irish’s offer and will be there to welcome him to Notre Dame during his late-March visit. Long’s departure didn’t seem to sway any of the 2020 recruits, so there shouldn’t be much concern on that front.

Tape on Tengwall paints him as a solid pass protector with a proficiency for run blocking, pulling all the way from left tackle to make a block on the right side of the field time after time. Tengwall was also very active in the screen game, giving Rees plenty of options if the Irish do in fact land him. Tengwall would be the highest rated Notre Dame offensive line commit since Sam Young in 2006.
