Miami Football: 3 new faces who’ll have instant impact in 2020

1. Don Chaney Jr./Jaylan Knighton, RBs

With DeeJay Dallas leaving Miami early for the NFL and Lorenzo Lingard in the transfer portal, the Hurricanes need an impact player at running back. Well, what about two? Both Don Chaney Jr. and Jaylan Knighton have an opportunity to contribute to the run game next season.

Both Chaney and Knighton bring something different to the table. Chaney is a slasher that seeks contact and can get the tough yards between the tackles. Knighton is the burner. He can flat fly. He’s the explosive speedster the Hurricanes needs on their offense.

With either one of these running backs paired with D’Eriq King in the backfield is dangerous. You have to read your keys when you have two guys in the backfield that can score from anywhere.

They do return two running backs in Cam’Ron Harris and Robert Burns, but part of the culture of the staff is trying to change is competition. It’s unclear how much the offensive staff likes the running backs, so both Chaney and Knighton are going to compete to for carries next season.
