There are several reasons why Colorado football’s three-year starter, Steven Montez, could be a valuable pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The NFL draft is approaching and some quarterbacks are hoping to be mid-round selections and surprise some people at the next level.

Steven Montez is one of those quarterbacks.

Here’s why teams should seriously consider selecting the Colorado quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.

3. Experience, potential to develop at NFL level

Steven Montez was a full three-year starter for Colorado and even started his several games his redshirt freshman year in 2016 when the QB1 at the time was injured. So basically, Montez has been starting games since 2016 for Colorado and has as much as experience or more as any quarterback in the 2020 draft class.

Montez’s experience is valuable as that is something you can’t take away from. While his play was up and down most of his career, it was up more than it was down and he was instrumental in some big wins for Colorado.

The Colorado star put up identical numbers during his three full seasons as the starter for Colorado. In his three full seasons starting, he completed between 60.5-64.7 percent of his passes, was in between 2,808 yards passing and 2,975 yards passing, was between 17 and 19 touchdown passes and was between nine and 10 interceptions.

NFL teams can see his experience, film, and numbers he put up and can have two takeaways from it:

  1. He was basically the same guy each season so we already know what we are going to get with him.
  2. He has plenty of experience and we know he is consistent and there’s enough there physically to work with him to develop over time.

Regardless of what teams think about him, his experience and potential develop in the right system is enough for an NFL team to consider drafting him.
