1. Toughness and mobility is a plus for NFL scouts

If you need any proof of Brian Lewerke’s toughness, just go turn on some film from the 2018 season. While the film isn’t pretty, Lewerke battled through injury and never stopped fighting. His toughness translated onto the field even when he isn’t banged up. It is evident from the film that he never stops fighting even when down by several scores with not much time left in the game.

The toughness trait is something you either have or you don’t and it’s something Lewerke most definitely has. That toughness is something that carries over to his teammates, when his teammates see him grinding away, that is only going to inspire them as well.

Lewerke is also a mobile quarterback who can make plays with his legs. He rushed for 559 yards his sophomore season and even though he never surpassed that number again, he still showed his ability to escape the pocket when needed.

Below is a clip against Ohio State that shows he has enough speed to get to the corner and pick up a first down against an elite defense. Fast forward to the 1:22-mark of the video.

Few areas to improve on

Every quarterback has areas where they can improve their game. Below are a few of Lewerke’s.

  1. Accuracy and consistency: While this is an area Lewerke can be more consistent and improve on, he was hurt by drops, which made his numbers look worse than what they should be.
  2. Throwing off back foot or fading away: As we mentioned earlier in the article, whenever he is falling away from his target, his velocity obviously takes a noticeable drop. Constant pressure and rushers in his face most likely helped lead to this.

All in all, Lewerke has enough good qualities to have a shot to contribute somehow at the NFL level, even as in a backup role.
