College Football: 10 coaches who could be on hot seat in 2020
By Dante Pryor
10. Mike Locksley, Maryland
We exist in a world where a second-year head coach can easily find himself on the hot seat. Such is the case with Mike Locksley. People want to know if he learned anything from his time at Alabama, or is this going to be a repeat of New Mexico.
The Terps never got any better last season. There were injures, but they did not get better where they were healthy either. There was a four-game stretch where the Terrapins did not seem like they wanted to play. During that stretch last season they gave up 52 points per game including 73 against Ohio State and 54 against Nebraska in back-to-back weekends.
Locksley is an offensive coach, and the offense was not very good last season either. Ironically, they also suffered the most injuries offensively. Starting quarterback Josh Jackson and Anthony McFarland both missed significant time due to injury.
There is not much positive to bring into this season except flipping local wider receiver Rakim Jarrett from going to the SEC and staying in the DMV. That might not be enough if they don’t figure out the quarterback position.
Locksley is not coaching for his job this season, but if the Terrapins go 3-9 next year he just might be.
