4. Tom Herman, Texas

Tom Herman knows how to win the postseason. They throttled Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in 2018 and then handled Utah in the Alamo Bowl this past season. It’s the regular season where he has trouble.

The Sugar Bowl win and 10-win season — which included playing for the Big 12 title and splitting the series with Oklahoma — signaled they were back. Then 2019 happened. True, they had injuries, but they are the Texas Longhorns; they’re supposed to have talented depth. The Longhorns aren’t supposed to resort to having a quarterback switch positions because they do not have a healthy running back on the roster. Yet, there they were.

This is a critical year for Herman and the Longhorns. They come off of a big bowl win — again — and look to capitalize on that momentum. The Longhorns not only return Sam Ehlinger at quarterback, but they also add five-star Bijan Robinson at running back.

Herman has recruited at a championship level each cycle he’s been in Austin. It is time for these big-time recruits to take spots. If the Longhorns are not playing for a Big 12 title this season, his seat will get warm.
