Pac-12 Football: 3 teams that could dethrone Oregon in 2020
2. Washington Huskies
I was as shocked as anyone to hear that Chris Petersen was stepping down and that defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake would be taking over as the head coach of the Huskies. However, the program was starting to grow a little stale despite all of the success that Petersen had in Seattle.
Washington has some key players to replace, such as quarterback Jacob Eason and are nearly dead-last in returning production on the offensive side of the football.
The main reason that I think Washington could be a sleeper: Lake.
I have tremendous respect for what he had done on the defensive side of the football. While Washington is having to replace several offensive starters, this is a team that has underachieved tremendously and I think that while he is very talented and and physically gifted, Eason was also very overrated and never truly lived up to his potential. The Huskies have hired John Donovan as the new offensive coordinator to spark this offense.
Washington will have a big test right out of the gate when it plays Michigan at home in Week 1 and the schedule also includes trip to Oregon and USC.
Don’t sleep on the Huskies this year because I think that they could be a team that could surprise you.
