3. Early chance to make noise vs. Ohio State

Every year, there are always several huge non-conference matchups early in the season. One of the top games of the season will be the Oregon Ducks hosting the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 2.

This will be the 10th overall meeting between the Buckeyes and the Ducks. The last meeting between these two teams was in the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship in Arlington, Texas.

The Ducks were led by the 2014 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota and defensive ends DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead. The Buckeyes were led by running back Ezekiel Elliot, wide receiver Michael Thomas, quarterback Cardale Jones, defensive end Joey Bosa and safety Vonn Bell.

It was the Buckeyes that took the national title with a 42-20 win.

The Ducks have never beaten the Buckeyes in the nine previous matchups since 1958. This will be the second-ever meeting between the Ducks and the Buckeyes in Eugene.

With the game being in Week 2, we won’t get a real test to see who both teams are until this playoff-type matchup.

NCAA.com writer Wayne Staats has the Buckeyes ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll and the Ducks ranked No. 6 as of March 20.
