5. Washington: Quarterback

There is a lot of transition happening in Seattle. Chris Petersen surprised many and stepped down as head coach of the Washington Huskies, handing the job to defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake.

In addition to Lake taking over head coaching duties, quarterback Jacob Eason decided to leave school early and declare for the NFL draft. That leaves a hole in the quarterback room for the Huskies and new offensive coordinator John Donovan.

The cupboard is not bare for Donovan, however.

The Huskies return two four-star quarterbacks in Dylan Morris and Jacob Sirmon. The latter has the size advantage over Morris. At 6-foot-5, Sirmon towers over the shorter Morris who is right at 6-foot-0. Height has become relative in today’s game, so that is not going to matter much.

Donovan, hired from the Jaguars, also has four-star Ethan Garbers coming into the fold when the season starts. Without spring and summer ball, Garbers might be on the outside looking in and the competition will come down to Morris and Sirmon.
