Defense should be an area of focus for Chip Kelly in the 2021 recruiting class, especially with how mediocre that side of the ball has been over the past couple of seasons.

Jaylin Davies fits the bill of one of the top prospects in the class who could fill an immediate need and impact the defense right away. The Santa Ana, Calif., native is being courted by the likes of Alabama, Arizona State, Ohio State, Washington and USC. The Bruins stand a good chance here, but holding off the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes will be difficult.

The four-star is ranked the No. 111 overall prospect and 11th-best cornerback in the class, according to 247Sports‘ composite. He’s also the No. 12 prospect from the state of California.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing about 165 pounds, Davies has plenty of athleticism but could afford to fill out that frame. He runs a 4.69 40-yard dash and Greg Biggins of 247Sports compares him to the Buffalo Bills’ Vontae Davis and says he has the potential to be a Day 2 pick in the NFL draft.
