Wisconsin Football: Way-too-early 2020 game-by-game predictions, Part 3
By James Bowers
Maryland has had two winning seasons during its six-year run in the Big Ten and 2019 was not one of them. Quite the opposite, in fact. Coach Mike Locksley watched helplessly as his Terps struggled mightily against their conference foes.
The Terps were 108th in total defense and 109th in total offense which are not statistical rankings that are going to give you a fighting chance against Hoosiers and Scarlet Knights, much less Buckeyes and Wolverines.
They have some nice recruits coming in, like five-star receiver Rakim Jarrett and four-star linebacker Rubin Hyppolite. Speculation never won a football game, so it’s not likely that anyone will have the Terrapins slated to represent the Big Ten East in Indianapolis.
Wisconsin has met Maryland three times, never losing. The closest matchup came in 2017, when the Badgers bested the turtles 31-24. If Jarrett and whoever the Terrapins’ quarterback is can develop chemistry, he will be a nice option for the red and gold offense. The defense doesn’t have a ton to work with as of yet and will need some new kids to step up.
Wisconsin should not worry if they play solid football and don’t make mistakes.
Final Score: Wisconsin 56, Maryland 0 (6-1)
