College Football Rewind: 5 most important games from 2000 season

We’re going to take a look back at games from each year, starting with the 2000 college football season, and look at some of the most consequential games.

If you are a college football super nerd like me, you have probably spent a lot of time thinking about past seasons or players and wondering how things might have been different if certain games went a certain way or if there had been a playoff during that era of college football.

Well one thing that I’m going to be doing in the next few weeks is looking back at each season, starting with the 2000 campaign, and have an overview of the top five games from each year.

A couple of things about this overview: I won’t be counting bowl games or the national championship in the most important games — those would be too obvious. This isn’t a review of the five best games of that season, so you won’t see Texas vs. USC in the 2005 edition or Miami vs. Ohio State in the 2002 piece. This is an overview of games that shaped the season and the national championship race.

The 2000 college football season was a revolving door of teams vying to be No. 2. With Oklahoma finishing the year as the only unbeaten team, there were several teams that had their shot to be No. 2. At the end of the season, Miami, Washington, Oregon State, Florida State and Virginia Tech all had one loss and had a claim to be in the BCS National Championship.

As you may guess, the most important games will revolve around these teams and how it prevented some of them from reaching the national championship.

With that being said, here’s what were the five most important games from the 2000 college football season.
