Notre Dame Football: Where will Irish prospects land in 2020 NFL Draft?
By Jacob Wilson
Across the line from Julian Okwara is edge-rusher Khalid Kareem, completing the duo that led the league in quarterback pressures in 2018. While Okwara was more active in the sack department, Kareem was equally as disruptive in the backfield when it came to tackles for loss. In his last two seasons with the Irish, Kareem combined for 20.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
Although not as significant as Okwara’s, Kareem experienced enough injury trouble to keep him sidelined from the 2020 Reese’s Senior Bowl. However, there’s little reason to believe that this injury will significantly affect his draft stock.
Kareem’s draft spot could certainly change as a result of how the first couple of rounds play out, but the Jacksonville Jaguars should give him heavy consideration if he’s still around at pick No. 116. With defensive linemen Calais Campbell and Marcell Dareus departing in free agency, the Jaguars can little afford any franchise tag drama from Yannick Ngakoue.
The Jaguars are already in dire need of pass-rushing specialists, and would become even more so if the Ngakoue drama treads into the regular season. Spending a pick on a defensive end may not have been what the Jaguars envisioned heading into the draft given their needs in other areas, but it very well may be where they find themselves by the time the 4th round rolls around.
