Pick Analysis. Alohi Gilman. 59. Scouting Report. No. 185. 6. player. S

Safety Alohi Gilman, much like Pride, benefited greatly from Lea’s aggressive defense. Additionally, playing alongside a more stay-at-home safety in the form of Jalen Elliott gave Gilman more leeway when it came to breaking on the football and forcing turnovers. This is another case of finding a good fit, this time for an ultra-aggressive safety with a nose for the football.

That ultra-aggressiveness typically worked out well for Gilman, so much so that the former Navy transfer played a part in eight turnovers and seven passes defensed over the past two seasons. Like Claypool, Gilman offers special teams prowess if nothing else.

The Miami Dolphins have a plethora of draft picks at their disposal, making Gilman well worth a late round flyer in hopes that he can become a contributor on defense as well as special teams. While the Miami pass-rush isn’t anything spectacular, the addition of Byron Jones should make life easier for whoever gets thrown onto the field at safety.

Note: Safety Jalen Elliott, wide receiver Chris Finke, and running back Tony Jones Jr. are also eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft. Elliott could sneak into the seventh round while Finke and Jones are likely to get opportunities as undrafted free agents.
