Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy recently made headlines for his controversial comments on playing football amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but hopefully by the time we reach this matchup, the focus will have returned to football.

For three straight years, this matchup has been decided by less than a touchdown. The 2017 season featured a rare low-scoring affair, with Oklahoma State winning 13-10, and the Cowboys followed that with a 38-35 victory in the 2018 game.

It was last year that Texas finally got back into the win column against the Cowboys. Sam Ehlinger had four passing touchdowns to four different receivers, and Keaontay Ingram added 114 yards on the ground on the way to a 36-30 Longhorn victory.

There’s a very good chance here, however, that Oklahoma State makes it three out of four. It will be a short week for Texas, and they’ll travel into an environment that is never easy to win in. If they indeed enter this week with only a loss, and all the hype that comes along with that, Boone Pickens Stadium will be absolutely electric.

The Big 12 slate isn’t full of powerhouses, but it is far from easy. This stretch of games to wrap the season against TCU, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State will be tough to get through unscathed. A playoff-caliber team would be able to navigate this run, but is Texas a playoff-caliber team?

Prediction: Texas 36, Oklahoma State 38 (10-2, 7-2)
