The Texas Longhorns have been through much turmoil since their national championship appearance in 2009. The Longhorns have only been through just six winning seasons since then. The biggest reason for the team turmoil is the lack of an efficient playmaker at the quarterback position.

Longhorn fans feel that they can achieve this once again with Sam Ehlinger as their starting quarterback.

In his sophomore season, Ehlinger threw for 3,292 yards, 25 touchdowns and only five interceptions on 275 completions out of 425 attempts for a completion percentage of 65. He also rushed for 482 yards and 16 touchdowns on 164 carries. That season, the Longhorns accounted for a 10-4 record and made it to the Big 12 Championship Game where they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners.

The No. 15 Texas Longhorns shocked the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in the 2019 Sugar Bowl, 28-21.

This past season, Ehlinger passed for 3,663 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions for a completion percentage of 65. He also rushed for 663 yards and seven touchdowns. The Longhorns regressed slightly despite a more consistent performance from Ehlinger. They were too one-dimensional on the offensive side of the ball with his passing and running abilities.

Ehlinger chose to come back for his senior season at Texas to develop his talent in college and show he can boost his NFL draft stock. He also wants to help bring back a consistent 10-win season for the Longhorns. He will need to boost his accuracy and mechanics to throw into tight windows.

He does possess a strong and the ability to make plays out of the pocket on specific running plays. He is regarded as one of the top eight quarterback prospects for the 2021 NFL Draft class.
