2. (2) Oklahoma 12, (5) Texas 0

The second straight appearance in the series for the Red River Rivalry, this game much closer than the 2003 edition. After a 63-14 blowout loss in 2003, Texas was looking for revenge.

Oklahoma had a star at running back with true freshman Adrian Peterson and his 32 carries and 225 yards rushing were the big difference in this year’s contest.

Texas quarterback Vince Young had a terrible day, going 8-for-23 for 86 yards. The Texas offense struggled and a late touchdown run by Kejuan Jones sealed the victory for the Sooners.

This game is important not just because a loss would have kept Oklahoma out of the national championship, it would have propelled Texas into the game because this would be the Longhorns’ only loss of the season and it cost them a shot at the Big 12 championship and the bigger prize, the national championship, which could have been the first of two straight.
