3. Who will emerge as Heisman candidate No. 3?

We know who the frontrunners are coming into this season. There is little doubt that Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields are the two main contenders for the Heisman Trophy this season. Is there another contender?

We learned from last season that a winner can come from nowhere and win. If you bet on Joe Burrow to win the Heisman Trophy before the season started you either have a flux capacitor or you are a soothsayer. Either way, you made a lot of money.

Kedon Slovis is a darkhorse contender for the Heisman this season. He is set to have a big year two in offensive coordinator Graham Harrell’s air-raid offense. The wide receiver room is still stacked even without Michael Pittman Jr.

Though the Heisman is a quarterback award these days, Travis Etienne could emerge this season. If the has some games where his performance wins the Tigers some games, Lawrence won’t be the only Heisman threat at Death Valley East.

There are so many bad defenses in the Pac-12 South, Jayden Daniels has an opportunity to put up some big numbers for Arizona State given the opportunity. He flashed often as a true freshman. The Sun Devils are loaded at wide receiver even without Brandon Aiyuk.

There is good chance chalk holds and both Fields and Lawrence hold off the field. These three could contend if the two frontrunners falter or get injured.
