3. Michigan 27, (8) Penn State 25

I’ll start off by saying this: I still think that even if Penn State finds a way to win this game, they probably wouldn’t have jumped either Texas or USC in the BCS standings in the end. However, this game was an instant classic and its always fun to play the what if game when it comes to guessing what the BCS might do.

This would be the time that Penn State would be defeated all season long in what was a big bounce-back season for Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions. Penn State came into the season as an afterthought in the Big Ten as they were not even ranked in the top 25 to begin the season.

This was a back-and-forth contest between the Wolverines, and it appeared that the Nittany Lions had avoided the upset when quarterback Michael Robinson ran into the endzone to take a 25-21 lead with just 53 seconds left. Michigan quarterback Chad Henne would engineer a drive and throw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham as time expired and giving the Wolverines the upset.

Penn State would go on to win the Big Ten, but Nittany Lions fans are free to wonder what would have happened if they had won this game.
