When looking at the team, Les Miles formed in Baton Rouge and how successful the team was leading up to the national title game it’s hard to understand how the 2011 LSU Tigers did not win it all.

LSU’s offense featured star players such as Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle and Spencer Ware. On defense, the Tigers featured Chuck Bednarik Award winner Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Claiborne, Michael Brockers, Eric Reid and Kevin Minter.

The Tigers went a perfect 12-0 in the regular season after defeating teams such as No. 25 Mississippi State, No. 16 West Virginia, No. 17 Florida, No. 19 Auburn, No. 2 Alabama, and No. 3 Arkansas.

LSU advanced to the National Championship game after defeating No. 12 Georgia 42-10 in the SEC title game.

There, they again faced off with the Crimson Tide, who avenged their regular season loss to the Tigers with a stunning 21-0 victory. LSU’s machine for an offense was shut down and their defense could not get enough spots as instead of being crowned national champions, they were crowned the best team to not win a national title since 2010.
