An interior Ohio State football lineman in the first round?

There are very rarely guards or interior offensive linemen drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. Whenever there is one worthy of drafted in the first round, they impact their chosen team immediately. Buckeyes left guard Wyatt Davis will be regarded as one of the most talented offensive linemen in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Throughout his first full season as a starter, Davis didn’t allow a sack or hit on his quarterback. He was one of the top guards in the nation as ranked by Pro Football Focus. He was ranked within the top four valuable guards in the nation and within the top 10 most valuable offensive linemen overall. Davis received an 82.1 run-blocking grade for the season, which is ranked among the top five guards in college football.

Davis was named apart of the 2019 All-Big Ten first team by the media. He was also named a member of the second-team All-Big Ten by the coaches. Throughout the season, there was a continual improvement in Davis’ mechanics and technical movements.

The junior is an interior offensive lineman that is getting better throughout his collegiate career. He is currently ranked as the 35th top prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class by Athlon Sports and 50th overall by Sporting News.

The guard position is one of the most undervalued positions but when left unchecked without a reliable starter can leave some damaging effects on the offensive line. Davis has first-round talent enough to continue the trend of interior offensive lineman selected high in the NFL draft.
