Another Ohio State football lineman to be drafted early

This Ohio State team will be loaded with potential. Many players will be evaluated throughout the season. Another Buckeye offensive lineman who progressed throughout the 2019 season was left tackle Thayer Munford.

The senior tackle will go into the 2020 season looking to build on momentum built from a solid 2019 campaign. Munford helped Buckeyes running back J.K. Dobbins become the program’s first 2,000-yard rusher. He played in 857 total snaps this past season. Through 359 snaps, Munford was graded by Pro Football Focus with an 86.1 run-blocking grade and a 64.4 pass-blocking grade. This was the second-lowest pass-blocking grade but he did have the highest graded run-blocking grade.

Munford knows he can get better in the passing game through consistent blocking.

One of his best blocking performances last season was against Michigan State and star defensive end Kenny Willekes. He was named to the 2019 All-Big Ten second team by the media and the coaches.

Munford will have a full season to become a more productive pass protector, but he is one of the most solid run-blocking tackles in college football. He is ranked 47th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft class by Athlon Sports.

NFL general managers love offensive tackles that are great run-blockers and still have room to improve as pass-protectors. Former USC offensive tackle Austin Jackson comes to mind when thinking of the potential of Munford in the league.
