SEC Football: Every team’s best newcomer for 2020 season
By Dante Pryor
While we are on the subject of football programs that need improved quarterback play, the Arkansas Razorbacks need stability at the position while new head coach Sam Pittman seeks to rebuild the program.
The Razorbacks had five quarterbacks throw at least 20 passes last year. They need someone to stabilize the position so either the young guys can develop or they can recruit their quarterback of the future.
Feleipe Franks could be that quarterback. He had an up and down career at Florida but flashed during his time under Dan Mullen. Franks has Kendal Briles as his offensive coordinator and he does have a reputation for coaching quarterbacks.
The Razorbacks are not asking Franks to be a Heisman darkhorse. He needs to be good. Franks needs to go to Fayetteville, win the job, and keep it for the entire season. The positive is Franks does have some pieces to work with at the skill positions.
If Franks can be serviceable and help the Razorbacks win some games, mission accomplished. There are three freshmen, KJ Jefferson, John Stephen Jones, and Malik Hornsby waiting in the wings. A good season by Franks to let the younger quarterbacks develop would put the Razorbacks program in the right direction.
