The biggest victory in the 147-year history of Rutgers football changed the college football championship picture drastically with the Scarlet Knights dramatic comeback victory to shock the third ranked Louisville Cardinals and would thus prevent them from making the national championship game at season’s end.

Rutgers is known as one of the main punching bags in college football today, but Greg Schiano had this program winning consistently and putting out NFL players such as Ray Rice, Kenny Britt, Jason McCourty and Devin McCourty.

In Bobby Petrino’s first stint as Louisville’s coach, this was his best team yet and their high-powered offense was making noise and the Cardinals eyes were set on big prizes at season’s end, but first they had to take a trip to Piscataway.

Louisville had a 25-7 lead in the second quarter and looked to be on the verge of blowing Rutgers out. Ray Rice would take over and finished with 131 yards and two touchdowns and led the comeback win for the Scarlet Knights.

This game was significant because it wound up preventing Louisville from going to the national championship and becoming a big time program.
