1. The Alabama football secondary has to play better

This section could have been labeled “Alabama needs to fix its defense”. However, the Tide’s front-seven should be stout this season.

They get Dylan Moses back from injury and leaving for the NFL early. Josh McMillon got a hardship wavier for a sixth year. LaBryan Ray returns from injury as well.

Shane Lee played a ton as a freshman and should take the next step as a sophomore. The Crimson Tide need a consistent pass rush from the outside linebacker and defensive end positions, but they have a swath of five-star players up front who could step up.

Where the Crimson Tide need the most help is in their secondary. They did not play well in big games last season. The warning signs became evident against South Carolina. Ryan Hilinski threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2.

Even Kellen Mond wasn’t terrible against Alabama. They were torched against LSU, but who wasn’t. What they were lacking last season was a ball hawk in the secondary. Patrick Surtain II needs to live up to those bloodlines and become a true shutdown corner.

They are going to be young in the secondary, but their sophomores played a lot last season. They do get help from JUCO player Ronald Williams. They have to play better against better passing teams this year, specifically Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence if they make the playoff.
