Baylor football: Top 3 Bears prospects for 2021 NFL Draft
By John Scimeca
Baylor football’s next NFL gunslinger?
En route to leading the Bears to 11 wins in 2019, Charlie Brewer put together some impressive numbers: 3,161 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His 7,531 career passing yards have him in third place on the all-time list in school history heading into his senior year.
Brewer’s damage on the ground was also important for the Bears last season: he rushed for 344 yards and 11 touchdowns, often proving to be a durable ballcarrier in addition to a steady pocket presence. Among Power 5 quarterbacks, only Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts and Mississippi’s John Rhys Plumlee rushed for more touchdowns in 2019.
Brewer’s passing accuracy (his career mark is 64.1 percent, second-best in school history behind Robert Griffin III) and his able to scramble out of the pocket are traits that will stand out to NFL scouts.
In today’s NFL, teams are incentivized to roll the dice on drafting a quarterback high. Look for Brewer to go among the top 10 quarterbacks selected if he repeats his outstanding 2019 performance.
