Campbell rounds out Maryland football’s solid LB corps

The linebacking corps will be the strongest unit on the defensive side of the ball for the Terrapins in the 2020 season. Chance Campbell was the Terrapins’ fifth-leading tackler from last season as he accounted for 54 total tackles. He also accounted for 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass deflections and a forced fumble in the 10 games appeared in and two games started in.

Campbell is the Terrapins’ second-leading returning tackler after Eley as well as one of the most experienced. His ability to shift through blocking schemes and create proper angles makes him an efficient tackler. He can run through gaps from starting from the linebackers or he can attack at the line of scrimmage without giving up push to create separation from the offensive line.

Campbell is another linebacker for the Terrapins who has good size at 6-3, 225 pounds.

The linebacking corps will be critical for the Terrapins defense this upcoming 2020 season that ranked 115th in points allowed per game (34.7). The defense ranked 83rd in rushing yards allowed per game (178.4) last season as well.

Eley and Campbell were the more consistent linebackers for a Terrapins defense that lacked reliable playmakers on key plays. Eley is a player that is more likely to forgo his senior season if he has a stout season than Campbell. A player like Campbell can be a favorable early NFL draft prospect once he shows his reliability and aggressive to make huge plays.
