In one of the greatest games that I’ve ever watched, Texas Tech got the biggest win in school history and knocked Texas out of the national championship (though we did not know it then) picture.

Texas Tech jumped out to a big lead behind a big game from star quarterback Graham Harrell and wide receiver Michael Crabtree, but Texas scored with 1:29 left and looked to be escaping Lubbock with victory. But Harrell had one last drive left.

Harrell appeared to throw an interception to Texas’ Blake Gideon with six seconds remaining, but it fell through his hands and Texas Tech would have another shot. Texas Tech was playing with a walk-on at kicker and most didn’t think head coach Mike Leach would leave it in the kicking team’s hands. On the next play, Harrell would find Crabtree on the sideline and he would break free from two Longhorn defenders and scored with one second left in one of the most iconic plays in college football history.

Texas was a great team in 2008 and could have defeated Florida in the title game, but Crabtree made sure to keep the Longhorns from reaching their second national championship under Mack Brown.
