QB. 1992-95. player. 850. Scouting Report. Steve Taneyhill. 18. Pick Analysis

It’s been a while since USC had a true SEC football star under center

Steve Taneyhill may not have been the most exciting quarterback to play for the Gamecocks, but few produced a bowl win and some of the best hair in college football history.

Taneyhill threw for 8,555 yards and 61 touchdowns in four seasons at South Carolina. These numbers place him second in program history in passing yards and first in passing touchdowns.

His best season came as a Senior in 1995. Taneyhill threw for 3,094 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 67 percent of his passes. The 29 touchdown passes are a single-season record, while his 3,094 are the fourth most seen in Columbia during a single season. His 473 passing yards against Mississippi State in a 65-39 victory that season ranks second in South Carolina’s single-game history.

In 1994, Taneyhill led the Gamecocks to a postseason victory over West Virginia as he guided the team to a 24-21 victory in the Carquest Bowl.

Taneyhill is a name no one in Columbia will forget as no Gamecock quarterback had quite the career.
