SEC Football: The best quarterback in each program’s history
All SEC football fans remember Johnny Football
It takes some outstanding play to earn the nickname “Johnny Football” and that’s exactly what Johnny Manziel did while at Texas A&M.
In just two seasons with the Aggies, Manziel threw for 7,820 yards and 32 touchdowns, which both rank second in program history.
Manziel is best known for his historic 2012 season. The Aggies quarterback threw for 3,706 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also added 1,410 rushing yards and another single-season record with 21 rushing touchdowns.
As a result, the Aggies posted an 11-2 season capped off with a Cotton Bowl victory. Manziel was named the Heisman Trophy winner, and won the Davey O’Brien and Manning awards, AP Player of and Year SEC Offensive Player of the Year awards and eared consensus All-American and first-team All-SEC honors.
In 2013, Manziel again earned first-team All-SEC honors as he threw for a single-season program record 4,414 yards and 37 touchdowns while adding 759 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. The Aggies posted a 9-4 record and defeated Duke in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
The Cleveland Browns drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft as a result of his legendary college career.
