While he did not light up the stat sheet, Joe Namath is still the best quarterback to suit up for the Crimson Tide.
In three seasons at Alabama, Namath led the Tide to a 29-4 record while throwing for 2,713 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 563 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Namath led Alabama to an Orange Bowl win in 1962, a Sugar Bowl win in 1963 and in 1964, he guided the program to a consensus national championship despite falling to Texas in the Orange Bowl.
His best individual season came in 1962 when he threw for a career-high 1,192 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 229 and four touchdowns.
He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals selected Namath 12th overall in the NFL Draft, while the New York Jets selected him with the first overall pick of the AFL draft. Namath chose to sign with New York, where he led the team to a Super Bowl III championship over the Colts and was twice named AFL MVP.
