One of SEC football’s No. 1 overall NFL draft picks

Tim Couch established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in SEC history in his three seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats.

In his career, Couch threw for 8,435 yards and 74 touchdowns while completing 67 percent of his passes. His 4,275 passing yards in 1998 is a program record while his 3,884 yards in 1997 ranks second.

He had two games in which he threw for at least 490 yards in 1998, including throwing for 499 against Arkansas, 488 against Louisville, 492 against Vanderbilt.

Couch ranks third in Kentucky’s program history in both passing yards and passing touchdowns trailing just Andre Woodson and Jared Lorenzen.

The Bluegrass state native was named first-team All-SEC, a consensus All-American and Heisman Trophy candidate as a result of his 1998 season and was drafted with the first overall pick of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
