Scouting Report. QB. 13. player. 866. Pick Analysis. 1979-82. Dan Marino

The best ACC football player ever to play for Pitt

Before putting together a Hall of Fame NFL career, Dan Marino solidified himself as the best quarterback in the history of Pittsburgh‘s football program.

To this day, Marino leads the program with 79 passing touchdowns and ranks second with 8,597 passing yards.

Marino led the Panthers to three straight 11-1 seasons from 1979-82 that included a 1979 Fiesta Bowl victory, 1980 Gator Bowl victory and 1981 Sugar Bowl win that earned Pitt the national championship. The Panthers went 9-3 in 1982 with a loss in the Fiesta Bowl to SMU as Marino finished his college career an outstanding 42-6 as a starter.

During the Panthers’ 1981 NCF title run, Marino set a single-season school record with 37 touchdown passes and threw for 2,876 yards to earn first-team All-American honors.

He was drafted in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, where he’d play his entire 17-year Hall of Fame career.
