It’s a unique time in college football for any coach, much less a first-year head coach. These guys will struggle in their new positions in 2020.

College football is one of the most confusing sports for head coaches around the FBS. Many coaches will succeed in one job and miserably fail in another. There’s no specific blueprint and if there was, only one or two coaches in the country would have figured out how to keep ahold of this blueprint for more than a few years.

Year after year, first-year head coaches struggle in their new systems. At the college level, players have a certain loyalty to the head coach that they committed to, so it can be a huge challenge for first year guys to even gain the trust of their entire roster.

Now, with the pandemic still looming, there are head coaches who haven’t even met most of their players face-to-face and likely will not until a month or so before the season begins.

With a healthy amount of coaches moving around this season during hectic times, it will be an exciting season to watch first year coaches to say the least. Some coaches will give new hope to their new schools, while others stepping in for long-time trusted coaches will have to earn every bit of respect.

Here are five coaches who will struggle in their new roles in 2020.
