5 first-year college football coaches who will struggle in 2020
1. Karl Dorrell, Colorado
This is just an unfortunate spot for anybody to be in. After saying that he wasn’t going anywhere, Mel Tucker promptly packed his bags and left for East Lansing, leaving Colorado in the dust. They found themselves looking for a new head football coach in mid-February and eventually landed on Karl Dorrell.
Dorrell has been coaching at the NFL level for a while now, but does have experience as a college head coach. He posted a total record of 35-27 with UCLA over a decade ago and didn’t miss a bowl game in a any of his five seasons. It’s worth noting, however, that only one of these seasons contained more than seven wins.
This Buffaloes program only won five games in their most recent season and I don’t think they’ve got the energy to do any better after what they went through this offseason. Inheriting a team with a broken spirit, I don’t see Dorrell succeeding next season, or at all until he’s got an entirely new batch of players in Boulder.
