Nebraska Football: Ranking Cornhuskers’ 2020 opponents by toughness
Scott Frost and Nebraska football are hoping to finally live up to all the hype and that means traversing an incredibly tough 2020 schedule.
Nebraska came into the 2019 season with high hopes. The Cornhuskers were ranked in preseason polls and Scott Frost looked to have found his quarterback and some other pieces to make Nebraska one of the contenders in the Big Ten West.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
The Cornhuskers won the season opener against South Alabama, but went on the road and blew a comfortable lead against Mel Tucker and Colorado in an overtime loss. They won their next two games to gain some momentum back, but never won consecutive games for the remainder of the season, finishing 5-7 and 3-6 in conference play, missing a bowl.
Frost’s seat got slightly more warm after the five-win disaster that was the 2019 season, but the Cornhuskers’ favorite son will likely get a long leash and as much time as he needs to turn things around in Lincoln. I mean, Mike Riley didn’t exactly leave him with a perennial powerhouse.
Heading into the 2020 season, expectations have been dimmed a bit and that’s fair given the lackluster performance from some stars, including Adrian Martinez, last year.
Experts are predicting 7-8 wins from the Cornhuskers and that would be a major win for Frost and Co.
The schedule won’t do this team any favors, though.
