Notre Dame Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2020
In one of the most anticipated games of the season, Notre Dame and Clemson will meet in what I think will be a battle of unbeaten teams with playoff implications.
Notre Dame and Clemson last met in the 2018 College Football Playoff, a game in which Clemson dominated 30-3. The last time that the two teams met in the regular season, Clemson won a classic game in the pouring rain 24-22.
Clemson will be ranked in the top two heading into the season and will likely remain there by the time of this game. They are heavy favorites to win the ACC yet again and this is considered to be the toughest test on their schedule by far in 2020. Clemson’s schedule is not good enough to survive a loss here, as this might be the only ranked team the Tigers play in the regular season, so this will be equally as big of a game to them.
This will be a chance for Notre Dame to make a statement and prove it’s a contender for the playoff and that this team is capable of winning games against teams such as Clemson.
Clemson may come out of the gate a little slow because I do think there is a component to this being the best competition it has faced up to this point, but the Tigers have Trevor Lawrence and he will make enough big plays to win the game for them in the end.
Final Score: Notre Dame 24, Clemson 35 (8-1)
A week after their big showdown with Clemson, Notre Dame will have to get refocused and head to Atlanta to face the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech is still undergoing a massive roster change with head coach Geoff Collins and there will be plenty of growing pains for the program in year two, but things are looking bright for the future in Atlanta. Collins brought in a top 30 recruiting class and has brought a lot of enthusiasm to the program and he hopes that will yield some results in the near future.
These two teams have not met since 2015, when Notre Dame won 30-22 in South Bend. I expect Notre Dame to be refocused and ready for this game and win handily, as they just have too much talent for the Yellow Jackets.
Final Score: Notre Dame 42, Georgia Tech 14 (9-1)
