Texas vs. Texas A&M

The only true rivalry to appear, the Texas vs. Texas A&M rivalry is one that should have never gone away.

A lot of why the series is dormant can be traced back to when Texas became a member of the Pac-10 for about 15 minutes. Instead, the Longhorns stayed and created the Longhorn Network. Fed up, Texas A&M wanted to separate itself and the rest is history.

These two programs have met 118 times, 19th most in college football history. Texas leads the series 76-37-5 and won their last meeting, a 27-25 Thanksgiving night thriller in 2011.

The refusal of these two programs to play has been mild blowing. Each athletic director has said their team does not need the other and basically that there is no benefit to the game ever happening.

Of course, the biggest benefit to the programs would be that in Football crazy Texas, a return of the rivalry would be a license to print money.

Eight years after realignment, things look a lot different. The Aggies have a Heisman winner and have been usually competitive in the SEC West, while the Longhorns are having a difficult time deciding if they’re back or not.

A series between the two could swing recruiting interests drastically in the state of Texas.

This is one of the few non-conference games that absolutely has to happen.
